What exactly, is Patronus Photographic?

We are a photography, video, drone & graphic design studio in Buffalo NY. Fully insured for all events and FAA licensed for aerial work. As a literal "Mom & Pop" small business in Buffalo NY, we pride ourselves on working with a wide variety of enterprise and personal needs, offering an exceptional and creative work experience at a reasonable price.

We would be honored to capture your memories.

Photography is our first love, whether it be for a special personal experience, a group event or corporate needs. We've done it all. Years were spent photographing and animating products for Fisher-Price/Mattel and other large corporations, including: aerospace, medical, pharmaceutical and the food industry. Many good people with fantastic backstories have come to us for portraiture, events such as weddings & engagements or life experience videos.

Let us be your "in-house" graphic design team.

Experience is, the best teacher. We've been working in the creative industry for over 20 years. Back then, you could simply be a "graphic designer" and manage a smaller range of duties in the field, however, much has changed in that time span. Due to the ever growing nature of technology, the industry had expanded and forced the hand of smaller agencies to task it's employees with managing (a still growing) number of hats to get tasks done. Ultimately, this made for a fantastic trial-by-fire that led to a wealth of knowledge in areas such as: General consulting, graphic design, Photography set up/editing, video recording/production, email campaigns, branding, social media imagery & maintenance, website design, CMS setup/hosting, SEO, HTML, CSS, ADA compliance and the list goes on.

Please feel free to contact us to discuss how we can help you achieve your goals. We love a good conversation and we're all about consulting. Even if you already made arrangements with another agency or studio, we'll lay it out for you to make sure you're getting a reasonable service for what you're paying and that all aspects of your goals are covered.

You may already know us!

We (Kelly & Eric Tuberdyke) were part of the punk-rock/skateboarding/music/art subculture of Buffalo NY, in the very independent, DIY era of the mid-late 80's/early 90's. We have found that so many of our old friends have become entrepreneurs themselves, yielding successful business in all manner of creative enterprises. Working with our peers has been an excellent way to reconnect and assist, while expanding & exploring our own small business.

In the early years, we both started to get serious with the same film camera, the Pentax K-1000, although my first was a Kodak C-126 (I know this is the same cheesy story as a million others that were hooked on photography, but it's true) for Christmas when I was 10 years old. As expected, I was enamored. Working with photography clubs led me to a job as a film chemist in the 90's where I learned quite a bit more than I thought I knew, about development, color and exposure. It was also about this same time that a close friend and I started a band that would eventually tour all over the world, offering an unlimited supply of interesting places and experiences to photograph and document. Five years and thousands of actual film photos later, I settled into a desk job, on my design career path. The transition was difficult 🤐.

Moving from the ultra-creative environment and freedom of personally figuring everything out, believing in yourself, traveling constantly and listening to your inner-voice, had to take a back-seat to a far more conservative way of approaching clients and projects. It took more than a decade for me, personally, to realize that this was actually an excellent learning experience and allowed me to consider that some businesses truly needed a more conservative approach to their events or projects. Balance, essentially, is everything. Where out-of-the-box thinking is revered, we're right there with you and where a conservative approach rules the day ... we understand that as well.

Where did the name Patronus Photographic come from?

In short, we're a family of Harry Potter heads and when our 9 year old daughter, Julia, saw this name on the list of possibilities, she exclaimed loudly "Thank you Daddy!" followed by a huge neck hug ... and that was that. I could never have picked another name after that burst of joy and so, we are Patronus Photographic. I myself am a Gryffindor and Kelly is a Ravenclaw. In the books, each wizard has a "patronus" that protects them, acting as an advocate to help when called. Interestingly enough, Patronus in Latin means "advocate", so in a sense, we're advocates for you with a camera or the Adobe design suite. We are here as you summon us to assist you. Pretty cool right? Furthermore, the summoning charm in the books is "Expecto Patronum", hence our tagline "Expecto great photo" and as it's considered advanced magic in the text, we consider our services "Advanced Magic Photography", because each detail is tended to in-post to create visually stunning images. We know we're on the right track for our personal goals, because everything has become automatic at this point. Even the main business email: expecto@patronusphotographic.com, which was a spur of the moment consideration, means roughly in latin, "We await your patronage", so you see, this isn't just another small business, this is our destiny.
